The Emotional Landscape
Laced with Renewal was created during a time when I felt mentally overstimulated but emotionally distant from myself. I was carrying the weight of needing to feel productive, constantly battling the pressure of time and the discomfort of stillness. This piece became a space where I could gently push back against that urgency. Its softness and pace reflect a quiet internal shift—from frantic energy to calm presence. It holds the tension of needing rest, and the relief of allowing it. In this work, I found a way to embrace both the desire for renewal and the need to let go, without guilt.
The Story of Creation
Laced with Renewal was built slowly, layer upon layer of thick paste. I was still learning how to use it, and that unfamiliarity brought an unexpected rhythm to the process. The paste forced me to take my time, to step away, and to return only when it was ready. It taught me patience in a way I hadn’t experienced before. I wasn’t rushing toward a finished piece—I was allowing something to emerge in its own time. Creating this painting felt like a quiet meditation in motion. It wasn’t about achieving mastery, but about embracing movement and presence. The act of layering, the tactile resistance of the paste, gave me permission to slow down and just be in the process. It wasn’t about perfection, it was about freedom—the freedom to create without urgency, without expectation.
Personal Connection
This piece holds deep personal significance because of what it offered during its creation. I often struggle with the need to rest without guilt, but this painting gave me something in-between: a way to slow down while still staying connected to my practice. It became a bridge between productivity and peace. The texture and repetition of the paste helped quiet the perfectionist in me, allowing me to simply move with the material. The painting mirrored my internal journey of finding peace in the process, learning to embrace vulnerability without rushing toward an end goal. Laced with Renewal represents a time when I allowed myself to rest and create without guilt, embracing a quieter, gentler pace. It was restorative, grounding, and a soft rebellion against the constant pressure to be doing, achieving, and moving forward.
