Standing Your Ground In Systems That Were Never Designed For You
A print size of your choosing on canvas paper or stretched over bars ready to hang
The story behind the artwork
This work response to a cultural moment in which women are reclaiming symbols long associated with masculinity, land and independence. The cowgirl carries layered meanings shaped by race, gender, class and access, reminding us that freedom has never been experienced equally. This print holds that tension allowing awareness and independence to coexist. The cowgirl here is someone who occupies space with a grounding presence.
Visual elements
The central focus of this piece is the cowboy boot, historically tied to labour, endurance and freedom of movement. Placed on a woman's body, it disrupts the traditional image of the cowboy, shifting the power away from performance into stability and the ability to move freely.
Meaning and intent
Through an intersectional lens, this work prompts conversations about access, freedom and representation. This is a woman who occupies space without apology and its free to move on her own terms.
