I See Her Differently Now Print

A print size of your choosing on canvas paper or stretched over bars ready to hang

The story behind the artwork
When I think about pregnancy I think of my mother rather than myself. The older I get, the more I begin to see her not only as a parent, but as a woman whose body carried a huge transformation. Pregnancy through this lens becomes the point where a woman is still entirely herself, and yet she is beginning to change into someone she cannot fully understand yet.
Visual elements
The colours in this piece were chosen so you can feel your own way through it and interpret something without having to be pushed towards a feeling. For some, it might feel gentle and comforting, for others it might feel a little more confronting: bringing up thoughts or relationships that aren't fully resolved. This painting isn't about idealising motherhood, its more about showing how complex and layered that connection can be.
Meaning and intent
The older I get the more I begin to see my mother not just as a parent but as a woman. Pregnancy in this sense feels like the in between stage where you are still yourself but already becoming someone new. It holds that shift and realisation that the women who raised us were standing in that same space of change. It considers pregnancy as a point of transformation.
