The Art of Self-Portrait
A print size of your choosing on canvas paper or stretched over bars ready to hang
The story behind the artwork
Artists have used self portraiture as a way to explore identity, vulnerability, performance, femininity, power and self awareness. This piece continues that conversation by removing traditional markers of identity and focusing gesture and emotional presence.
Visual elements
The composition focuses on form and balance. The colour scheme draws attention to the architecture of the body, through the contrast of deep many and charcoal tones against warm ochres and creams to create a sculptural, almost carved quality.
Meaning and intent
The work encourages us to engage through feeling, texture and and projection without a narrative. The intention was to explore how the body becomes a visual language - one capable of holding memory, tension, confidence and complexity.
