Step by Step

Step by step is a close up from Beauty in the Chaos, continuing the same exploration of uncertainty, process and becoming. Where the original piece focused on learning to trust what happens when there is no clear outcome, this work looks more closely at how we move through that uncertainty.

Sometimes looking the whole stair case of what lies ahead stops us from taking the first the. looking at how far there is to go we convince ourselves that we need a plan before we begin.

Each mark exists because of the one that came before it. The composition therefore becomes a record of progression not one single transformation.

Individual brushstrokes build upon one another almost like steps with no single mark responsible for the finished composition. There is a gradual sense of construction throughout the piece.

Step by Step is a reminder that small actions become significant when they accumulate over time. It explores how easily we get overwhelmed by the whole staircase but once broken down into individual steps it becomes achievable. You just need to keep taking one step at a time.
